Almost all of the sessions were recorded on analogue equipment with little or no possibility of automation when mixing. So when putting down the final mixes we usually had one go where both hands and knees were engaged to get things right. I actually filmed us on one occasion doing this and that was during the mixdown of Message.
(well. ok. i agree. it looked rather pleasant. as we’d installed flying faders.)
Recorded and mixed at Ocean Sound Recordings, Giske, Norway.
(as you can see in the video, this is from the boat house where the studio was first located.)
I can finally announce that the full back catalogue is soon available in all usual outlets on the world wide web. Today I am editing the files for the Ocean Sessions EP from 2007 and happy to let you know that it will include, for the first time since its release, the song Without A Heart I’d Rather Die that was a part of the original sessions. A longer version of U (Try, Try, Try) as originally only available on the CD version is also part of the new digital release.
Updates on the release with some behind the scenes footage will be posted later.

To see what’s been going on music-wise for the last couple of weeks, go check out the live videos that was streamed every night at Ustream !!!
Berlin (Days Off)
Berlin (Days Off)
The first week is over. We just finished our sixth show tonight in Wiesbaden. I have stories saved for you. And pictures and videos on my phone and computer. I will tell and show. Meanwhile, you can watch the recorded streams on ustream.tv/channel/robertpost – we will broadcast the rest of the tour from that channel as well. Stay tuned in.
Lots of new stuff going on in here – new design, some new live pics, there are more videos and the store is open with all releases available on physical formats!
Since I am going on a tour this month I am making a special offer that all purchases before February 16 will include a free CD-version of Live at Ocean Sound Recordings + postcards + a signed and limited photo from 2005 + a poster of the RHETORIC artwork. How about that?
I put together a video of live pics from the day of the show at Ocean Sound Recordings in July, 2010. Featuring pics of myself, violinist Lise Voldsdal, backing vocalist Ragnhild Giskeødegård, guitar/banjo/pedal steel-player Kristian Blø Olsen and engineer Eyvinn Magnus Solberg. Also including various shots of the surrounding area of the studio on the Giske island.
In February and March I will be touring with Marianne of Katzenjammer’s solo project Dandylion in Europe, both opening for her and playing guitar in her band. It’s gonna be a blast! If everything is going according to my plans I will also bring a brand spanking new album with me on the road. RHETORIC SEASON TWO is in the making.
In between recording two new albums I am doing a few shows here and there. Since I never was any good at keeping up the momentum of past successes I’ve hardly done anything to make sure people remember me from time to time. Now I woke up the other day thinking; I haven’t really played a proper show in Oslo in 5 years. Just one-offs as part of a charity event, an acoustic club night with two or more acts, release parties announced on the day of the release, etc. I’ve been really shit at this. Perhaps it’s just the result of the independence I strived for and the fact that I am, with Aimee Mann’s words, a Super-Ego.
We have spent the last couple of months redesigning the website (www.robertpost.no) and getting ready for launching it together with my new album being released. Today the album is out and I am so happy about it. It’s been quite a frustrating journey to get this album out to say the least. I don’t have any clues how many times it supposedly was scheduled for a release but I guess it speaks for the whole process, because so many things have moved forward in a slow pace the last couple of years. I have been moving forward only when feeling creative, I only worked on my music when inspired, and to be honest, I sometimes like it better not being part of the music industry. I love the music, but not the industry.
Anyways, things are different now. I have found peace by sitting on the fence for a while and I have made my way through concentrating on what I like the best and never compromise on my career. It’s all controllable if you only control it yourself. Through innumerous opportunities and not being able to pick the right one I have seen myself go down. Now trying my best to choose a direction of perfection and profession of a different kind.
I see good things coming. And the start is with this album; Disarm & Let Go.
The album is available to buy from all major downloading stores around the world.
A hard copy of the album is available to purchase from:
On a night off I watched Once Upon A Time In America on TV, and as the scene with the girl dancing was approaching I felt the urge to film it and turn it into a music video for the song I Find It Strange. So I used my iPhone and the 8mm-app and filmed for 4 minutes (the length of the song) and then put the music on top of it in iMovie. No editing. There you have it.
I am at my family’s cabin writing and recording songs for my two upcoming albums. I shower outdoors and catch my own fish for dinner. It’s very quiet – it’s only me deep in the woods in the middle of Norway. The songs are all coming together very nicely…
Here’s a pre-programmed shuffle playlist that’ll introduce you to almost all corners of my catalogue. Studio recordings, live songs and demo-like rarities. It also includes a couple of free downloads if you have a closer look at it.
That’s it for now folks. I’ll be back with more news on my new record (RHETORIC SEASON TWO) due this fall.
I have had some requests about making this song available for the public. And it is one of those songs people search my website for. Now I have uploaded the song on my SoundCloud page for you to check out. The song was originally recorded for the Ocean Sessions EP but only released as a bonus track for the initial iTunes release in 2007 on Nettwerk Records. Have not been available since, but will be included on the LP version of Disarm & Let Go / Ocean Sessions EP that will be cut to vinyl directly from analog masters. Due out TBC.

Listen in context of the dogme-like way of which I was producing it. I haven’t used any other recording equipment than the built-in microphone on my Mac and a few software instruments. It was quite a stressful recording situation but at the same time I found it creatively challenging in positive terms. It was moments of fun and some of despair… banging my head against the wall for the obvious reasons you would experience if ever trying to record a bass guitar or drums through a PC-microhone. Even worse – the vocals…
I leave you to it, and present you THE BUTTON MOULDER’S WALTZ:

UPDATE 2013 Since I have decided to call my new album The Button Moulder and that some ideas from this production is involved in that I have to take down the free downloads for now. It may be that I will make it available again. But as for now… You gotta wait for THE BUTTON MOULDER on October 25, 2013.
It was done on this:
And finally, as promised – I made the artwork in the Photo Booth!
PS i did use pro tools to cut the final wav file and photoshop elements for the title on the artwork. that’s it.
Norwegian streaming service WIMP has exclusively made available The Shins’ new album. So I thought I’d have a listen. I am disappointed.
Should I deepen my thoughts?
I just think it’s too much focus on the production and not so many good songs. Sounds like they’ve had comfortable chairs sitting around the studio making high-fives for every edit that they could produce to make the song better. It’s become common practise.
Or is it just the fever of mine that is shaking my foundation!?!
